I've just watched an interesting TV documentary about 70s glamsters Mott the Hoople. But the question I'd really like answered is what were those bizarre shaped guitars they used to use?

All I can find on the web is this about Ian Hunter's maltese cross guitar.

Take a basic Telecaster-style guitar; add a crazy finish, retro hardware, any other accessories as you see fit, and you might just end up with something as mad as these Girl Brand Guitars. To give you an idea of just how mad we're talking here, one such example (Sushi Girl) has a perspex window in the front of the guitar so that you can view a plate of sushi which has been positioned inside the body! I assume it's plastic sushi not the real thing, else it'd be a rather smelly guitar.

Cutting edge gadgets honoured:
...the one honoured product that will have purists up in arms is a digital electric instrument by the venerable guitar maker Gibson.

It has developed what it says is the world's first digital guitar. On the outside it looks much like Gibson's legendary Les Paul Model.

The difference is that it uses digital technology called MaGIC, so that the sound from each string can be picked up individually.

"MaGIC will revolutionise the way media information is transmitted in content creation, post production and editing, and in the consumer home," said Gibson CEO Henry Juskiewicz. "It's the right technolgy at the right time."

GuitarGods.com featuring Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Yngwie Malmsteen, Brian May, Jimmy Page, Randy Rhoads, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eddie Van Halen, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Not all these players are to my personal taste, but it is a nicely put-together website and has lots of info - biographies, gear, discographies, tabs, etc - on each player.

I've only just found out that Tony Zemaitis sadly passed away on Saturday 17th of August last year.

He was one of the first guys that built guitars finished with metal or pearl fronts. They always looked great and were much loved by people such as Ronnie Wood and Ronnie Lane amongst others. You can see a gallery of some of his fabulous instruments here.
